BT is an abbreviation of the scientific name of a species of bacteria, Bacillus thuringiensis, that kills some groups of insects. BT occurs naturally and is commonly found in soils worldwide. It was first discovered infecting silkworms over 90 years ago in Japan, where it became known as Sotto disease.
Prevention & Treatment without fungicide
The best way to prevent brown patch or large patch in the home lawn is by following good lawn care practices without using fungicide. This is much easier and less expensive than the use of fungicides and can be very effective.
Do not apply a broadcast application to interior surfaces of homes
Do not apply to pets, food crops, or sources of electricity
Firewood is not to be burned for one month after treatment
Use only in well ventilated areas
Use non-chemical control methods to help reduce pest problems. Around the home, such measures include removing sources of food and water (such as leaky pipes) and destroying pest shelters and breeding sites (such as litter and plant debris).
First, whenever possible exclude boxelder bugs from entering the house by repairing screens and caulking cracks around windows and doors. Bugs that do get in will take up winter residence in wall voids and the attic. They will not cause any structural damage but will become a nuisance throughout the winter. If you are unable to seal exterior cracks you may need to treat wall voids and the attic with insecticidal dust or aerosol.
